Beleaguered Bookseller Knows Whom to Blame: Oxfam

The proprietor of a secondhand bookshop spawned a public row when he blamed his store’s demise on the opening of a store run by Oxfam nearby. “But it’s also that the English have a real sense of fair play, and this isn’t fair play, whether it’s for good causes or not.”

    There is a point in this
    Not so much with the general Oxfam shops (with a mixture of clothes, books, toys, fairtrade items etc) but especially the Oxfam books shops, that are dedicated to just selling books.

    They are not really comparable to a real secondhand bookshop but the idea of fair play is there when it’s deliberately plying the same market but without the inherent costs of the highstreet (rent/rates especially).
