Author Visit Cancelled Due to Criticism of the President

The NBC affiliate in Duluth reports that the local diocese has canceled a speech by the author of “Dead Man Walking” because her name was on a newspaper ad calling for President Bush to be removed from office. Author Sister Helen Prejean was scheduled to make the keynote address at an October first fundraising dinner for Duluth and Iron Range Catholic schools.

Here’s Prejean’s website; although she supports the statements made about the President (criticizing Bush’s “reckless pursuit of war in Iraq,” and “his zealous promotion of imprisonment and executions”), she has subsequently asked for her name to be removed from the ad as she does not support a women’s right to birth control and abortion.
