After flirting with corporate sponsorship from Crown Casino, including possibly stamping books with the company logo, the city library yesterday retreated from the plan, reassuring readers there would be no deal with the nearby Kerry Packer-owned casino.
The change of heart came just a fortnight after approaching Melbourne’s largest gaming venue to discuss the possibilities of gaining sponsorship dollars. The Library’s committee members abandoned their plans when local councils and library members expressed their outrage at the money-raising scheme.
