At City Council, Residents Resurrect Quarrel Over Library Tracking Devices

California Is Having Some RFID Issues: A three-year debate over the use of electronic tracking devices on Berkeley public library books resurfaced Tuesday when several residents protested the devices before the Berkeley City Council.

Library workers and community members have opposed the radio-frequency identification tagging system and its potential harm to workers’ health and patron privacy since its installation at the Berkeley Public Library on Kittredge Street last year.
