The executive search firm writes: New Orleans Public Library is seeking a
City Librarian. Do you want to make a vital difference to a remarkable American city?
Remarkable and unique, that’s for sure, but troubled, torn, shocked, vacated and nearly destroyed by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, left desperately begging for assistance from our federal government. But if you’re the right person, read on…
Are you able to create a 21st Century library system?
Do you have the collaborative leadership skills to support the Friends,
the Foundation, and other key NOPL partners?
Can you work successfully with local, state, and federal agencies to
complete capital projects?
Do you have the vision, passion, and energy to lead where and when it
really counts?
Are you ready for a unique challenge and opportunity that will change
thousands of lives every year?
Can you enjoy the good life offered only by New Orleans?[ed: I didn’t think they were quite back to ‘laissez les bontemps rouler’ quite yet]
The City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Public Library Board of
Directors seeks a Library Director who can successfully lead the rebuilding
of the New Orleans Public Library. Could you be that special leader?
The Main Library and five of 12 branches have reopened. Two temporary
libraries are open. Two bookmobiles soon will serve other neighborhoods. The
Foundation has launched a $10 million capital campaign. Federal funding is
anticipated for much of the additional $20 million in estimated capital
needs.
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited
program and a minimum of five years of professional librarian experience in
an administrative capacity, preferably in a multi-unit urban system. The annual salary range is $100,000 to $130,000, plus a full benefits package.
Starting salary is negotiable, depending on experience. Visit DubberlyGarcia for more information.

Didn’t the previous director…
retire back in July?
R U?
A pistol packin, taser wielding, martial arts expert, with bodyguards willing to live in a war zone…? Then this job’s 4 U!
Nine murders in New Orleans so far this year…NPRs
done several stories about this…
And who knows what that state of the buildings and collections are, how many staff are left, and with so many competing demands for funds…who knows if the library system will get even a drop of what it needs.
Even so…success at bringing this system back that would be amazing!
Re:R U?
I’ll interview if I can carry a handgun.
