Anticipation soars at new Seattle libraries

An Anonymous Patron writes “Just in case you’re not sick of hearing about Seattle libraries, Here’s An Article on the new library in Beacon Hill, a Seattle ‘hood that is getting a new 10,800-square-foot library this week. After a long wait and local input, the design is aimed at unifying the diverse community through the common theme of nature. The building features wood, stone, a sweeping roof that allows in natural light, and natural paint colors such as tan, green and a brick red to match the building next door.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer is also covering the Rem Koolhaas-designed Central Library again, with yet another new story on how things are running 2 months after opening. Since the building opened to the public in May, it has seen crowds that spiked as high as 20,000 people per day (currently estimated at 12,000 to 15,000), far greater than the 4,000 to 8,000 predicted.”
