Another Oprah’s Book Club Scandal?

mdoneil writes: “Apparently James Frey, the author of A Million Little Pieces (an Oprah’s Book Club selection), is not the criminal he portrays himself to be. In an oddly perverse way, it seems that not being a complete scumbag may cause him some distress. According to a report from The Smoking Gun, the book is a work of fiction, not the true life story as the author claimed it to be. The book, which brought tears to Oprah’s eyes, has sold 2.5 million copies. Why does Oprah set the literary tone for the country, as opposed to say James Billington?” Oprah’s fallout with Jonathan Franzen was followed by the club reverting to classic books for three years. How will this revelation affect the club?
