It’s like 1984 all over again.
From ArsTechnica:
Amazon may be in the process of stirring up some more trouble for itself thanks to reports that the company is deleting certain kinds of erotica from both the online store and users’ devices. The erotica in question is controversial: it talks about certain acts of incest. Judging from Amazon’s most recent bouts with book “censorship,” users who have already paid for the deleted content are likely to get fired up.
The article goes on to say how one customer who complained about how their content that they paid for disappeared from their Kindle received only chastising remarks from Amazon about the severity of the item they purchased.
Meanwhile, the Strict Leather Forced Orgasm Belt remains on the virtual shelves of online retailer.
Update books not deleted off Kindle
According to an update to the story Amazon did not delete any content off of Kindles. For a brief time people could not re-download three titles. This has been fixed.
Meanwhile…
…Oedipus Rex is still available on Kindle.
I’d like to say that this continued behaviour won’t be good for Amazon, but ya know, I don’t think people care all that much – until it happens to them.

Amazon’s biggest problem
I wonder if Amazon removed these titles from their store due to the heat they recently received when it looked like they were defending a pedophilia manual?
Amazon’s biggest problem (IMO) is that they’re just making it up as they go along. Unfortunately their judgment seems to be shot. They keep overreacting, alienating customers, and then apologizing for it.
What they need is a good Collection Development Policy!

Their sales numbers do not
Their sales numbers do not show their approach is harming them at all.
I agree
They need to get a consistant way of dealing with things that doesn’t look so haphazard. People have the right to read what they like, but a consistant collection policy would be a big help, if you ask me.
Gee….
…that sounds like — a LIBRARY!!!
