Nice!
Kudos to the ALA on this one. It’s a nice Site, and I think ALA-APA’s mission is one we can all get behind: “to promote the mutual professional interests of librarians and other library workers.â€?
For my money, this is the kind of stuff I like to see the folks in Chicago focusing on.
Re:Nice!
Amen on Blake’s comments.
Also, goodonthem for emphasizing all library workers and actually including support staff content in the first issue.
Re:Nice!
I have an article in the next issue about rural libraries and the VT initiative to pay workers reasonable wages.
Re:Nice!
As someone who was peripherally involved with the task force early on, I can tell you that this group is absolutely committed to making sure any such efforts do include all library workers. It was with this group that I felt like I’d found a home in ALA–it was a support staff member who drew me in and made me feel most welcomed.
Another bit of good news along the same lines is that Council approved a greatly reduced membership fee for support staff. Getting libraries on-board with realizing the value of professional development for support staff will be a trick, though.
