The official proclamation of Bleak History Month reads in part…Whereas, libraries are important engines in the transmission of historical and cultural information, it is only right that the library take a lead role in educating the public about the persistence of disaster, evil and ruin. So much of the work of the library has been connected with pleasure and uplift, it is only proper that we address this imbalance and present a fair case for despair and unpleasantness.”

The official logo for Bleak History Month will be a stylized Grim Reaper resting upon a stack of books while gazing into a computer whose screen will depict a grinning skull, which likeness can easily be altered to resemble any state, federal or local elected official.
