Ah Romance….Especially in Libraries! Non-Fiction Book Due Next Year

Many people don’t imagine ALA President Michael Gorman to be a romantic, but he really is. He’s written the forward to Madeleine Lefebvre’s new book, “Romance in Libraries”, due out from Scarecrow Press of Maryland in January 2006.

Lefebvre’s book contains over 180 real-life stories of Library Romance and covers the gamut from senior citizens love stories, to stories of puppy love, and everything in between – stories of gay and straight romance; cross cultural romance; stories set all over the world; and lots of stories about the serendipity of that first meeting against all odds.

Stores are grouped in chapters under themes like the library as place for romance; romance of reference; reading rooms; academic libraries; public libraries; special libraries; bookmobiles; library school; conferences; international romances; library cupids (people being introduced through a third party connected with the library); food (lots of romances involved food and libraries!). Lefebvre said the themes presented themselves when she started sifting through the contributed stories.

Look for it at ALA Mid-Winter!
