A Samuel Johnson Trove Goes to Harvard’s Library

Anonymous Patron writes “The NYTimes Books Sections Reports on The Houghton Library at Harvard University. They have inherited the Donald and Mary Hyde Collection of material relating to Samuel Johnson. It is one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive compilations of 18th-century rare books, manuscripts and personal correspondence.”

    Thank you for noting this. I’m wondering if the collection has letters from Robert Dodsley, my personal favorite, and the publisher who early on recognized Johnson’s talent and suggested he compile dictionary and helped finance it. Dodsley wrote “The oeconomy of human life,” a life instruction book, which was a best seller for about 100 years.
