Spam, i.e., the product responsible for the success of the Hormel Foods Corp., is also responsible for a windfall for the Austin (MN) Public Library. An anonymous donor gave 300 shares of Hormel stock to the library this month.
Library Director Ann Hokanson said the stocks were sold for $12,000 and placed in the gifts and memorial account. The board will decide how to use the money, said Hokanson. The Post Bulletin reports.
Town was home of famous strike in the 80’s
The movie American Dream documents the strike against Hormel in Austin, MN in the 1980’s. American Dream won the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1990. Here is the Wikipedia entry about the documentary.
