5 Things I Didn’t Realize I’d Be Working on When I Decided to Become a Librarian

From ACRL’s Blog: “For some time now there has been talk of how the roles of librarians are changing, and recently I find myself working on a variety of projects that I imagine are a bit removed from what librarians of yore might have been up to. Perhaps the fact that I find these projects 100 percent relevant to the academic library where I work, and am happy to take them on in my capacity as a reference and instruction librarian, further reflects the changes in the profession. So I thought I’d share some of those projects and see if anybody’s with me”

    I Never Thought I’d….
    teach people how to use an online database, place requests via internet catalog, hook up to WiFi, or use their e-mail.

      more “librarian” duties
      Schedule peer-tutoring, manage a program in which students get bus tokens as a reward for studying in the LRC…
      Mostly, I wish I had more traditional librarian things to do!

        More Still
        Run a book group, adult summer reading program, homebound delivery service, unplug a stopped up toilet, or wet/dry vac an over flowing toilet!

    Book trucks
    I went to a great library school but nobody ever told us how to push overloaded book trucks without tipping them over!
