533 Page Childrens Book

When author/illustrator Brian Selznick began writing a children’s novel inspired by the first science-fiction movie, he had no idea how much the visual language of cinema would influence and enlarge his book.

The result is The Invention of Hugo Cabret (Scholastic, $22.99), 533 pages about a 12-year-old orphan who secretly lives within the walls of a Parisian train station.

It weighs 3 pounds, or, as Selznick calculates, “about $7 a pound – good weight for a book.”
