Zeeland Superintendent Gary Feenstra and Curriculum Director Chris Guimond-Cairns received written complaints Tuesday from parent Nancy Zennie, who wants Feenstra to drop his restrictions that prevent Harry Potter books from being read aloud in class, placed on school library shelves and circulated freely.

The mother of two Zeeland students also demands that the school board follow its policy to form a broad-based review committee to hear any challenges to the books.

Zeeland Board of Education President Tom Bock previously said Feenstra\’s Nov. 22 action to restrict the book based on verbal complaints at three elementary schools did not overstep the superintendent\’s authority because the board policy applies only to written complaints.
