Library solves porn problem by moving computers
If you want to keep your kid from looking at inappropriate stuff on the Internet, keep the computer in the middle of the home’s high-traffic area — the living room. Barring filtering software, it’s the obvious lo-fi solution. That doesn’t work in libraries however, where adults who want to look at pornography in public often have no shame.

    Error in the article?
    The article said: Libraries that receive public funding are permitted to use computer filters to block pornography and other obscene material, as long as they unblock content when requested by an adult patron.

    I believe the law says they are required to use filters to receive public funding.

    Also, hardly anyone in the within library community recognizes that a man need not be nude to commit the criminal offense of indecent exposure, as often happens when viewing pornography.

    There is absolutely no law saying that libraries are required to use filters to receive public funding.

    There are rules–that is, CIPA–requiring certain levels of filtering (which don’t include text, by the way), that can be turned off on request of any adult patron, to receive *one particular form* of Federal government subsidy.

    Most public funding of libraries is not Federal, and doesn’t involve CIPA.
