An Anonymous Patron writes “Murray State University President F. King Alexander’s announcement that he will donate his raise to the university libraries left university librarians beside themselves. You can read the complete faux news story online at www.thenews.org.
“We were so excited, we all squealed like a bunch of little girls,” Janet Marion, librarian, said.
In this tight budget year, the library is considering some extra purchases like toilet paper and umbrellas to protect students from a leaky roof. And the most spectacular purchase may be a combination copy machine and mechanical bull, which gives a free ride after every 10th copy.”
Alrighty…
I will say that such humor is quite welcome. I do hope that students at Murray State University do recognize it as humor, though, rather than actual news reporting. Such is always a concern with such pieces due to audiences served.
I needed the morale boost while pondering things towards my MSLS coursework.
It’s an idea who’s time has come!
You know, maybe this faux-news story has a good idea… I bet we could get lots more people into the public library if we put in a copy machine/mechanical bull. Or if gambling was legalized, maybe every millionth copy would get a payout like a slot machine.
Did the president really get a $40,000 raise? Sheesh, where am I going wrong?
Re:Alrighty…
If conditions in the library are really so bad that the student was inspired to write this humor piece, I’m not sure how much of a morale booster it is. Is Murray State really that leak-prone?
Re:Alrighty…
parts of it leak when it rains, but it’s not like it rains several times a week or anything like that. it’s kentucky, not the pacific northwest.
i thought the beginning & end were witty, but it kind of crapped out in the middle there. oh well.
