Amazon threw down the gauntlet against terrestrial competitors today by announcing that Kindle and Kindle app customers can borrow and purchase Kindle books from more than 11,000 local libraries in the United States.

Friday, borrowing a Kindle book through your portable device sent you to the mobile version of Amazon where the link to download the book didn’t display… only a button to purchase the ebook. So if you got confused and clicked “purchase with 1-click” then you bought the book for $9.99.
So we’ll see if anyone complains. Hell, I almost made that mistake thinking that Amazon was “selling” me a library book for “$0.00.”
