mdoneil writes “The Rocky Mountain Collegian newspaper ran a story about a fellow who enjoyed himself a bit too much.
The front page of the paper artfully juxtaposes the Steelers win and the fellow’s enthusiasm.
I am so very glad that this does not happen in my library.”
Unfortunately…
It HAS happened in the libraries I’ve worked at.
The pervs like libraries. Public place, hide in the stacks, etc.
And I wish I could say it was the worst thing that’s ever happened where I’ve worked. I think the dead cat in the bookdrop might qualify there…
Yup, me too
Well, I didn’t see it… but a librarian who teaches a class had a guy doing it right in her class.
He came in to sign up for a library card when I was on the desk, and made it known very clearly that that was who he was (never introduce yourself to library staff with the phrase, “I used to be a pervert…”). So I had to ask him to leave, because he was banned for life.
After many cries of discrimination (yeah, I discriminate against patrons who whip it out in public. I admit) and one last, “Shove it up your a—!” He left.
I would have thought that someone who did that sort of stuff in public could come up with a more creative epithet than “Shove it up your a–!”
Me three?
I’ve witnessed… evidence of an incident like this before as well, in the main “accessible” bathroom in an academic science library. Whoever it was had the privacy of a single-seat bathroom with a locking door, and decided not to clean any of his mess up. It was sickening, to say the least. And with all the potential diseases that such bodily fluid might carry, I would dare to suggest it’s a criminal act.
My favorite part of the original article:
“For him to conclude that I have the ejaculatory capacity to hit the screen is ludicrous,” he said in an interview with the Collegian on Friday afternoon. “At 48, I don’t have the distance.”
Hilarious.

covers the day before when the police drew their firearms on an IV drug user.
I’ve never had the police draw their guns, I have however had the police pop in to take a look for people (and drag some out). I’ve also had the police come in when a patron complained I assaulted him.
As for one handed web surfing, I haven’t seen any at my current library but at a previous job there were ‘incidents’.
But then I’m in a public library. During my time in uni libraries I didn’t have anywhere near as many ‘interesting’ stories.
