Woodland CA library board could have "done better job at hiring"

In The Daily Democrat - Woodland,CA - Gregg Atkins isn't happy with The Woodland Library Board. The job announcement asked for "five years of increasingly responsible experience in professional public library administration "

But he says the new librarian brings no actual library management experience to the city library.

On Thursday, May 22, 2008, Seton Hill University’s (SHU) own Judith Koveleskie, periodicals librarian for Reeves Memorial Library, will appear on the show.

From a very early age, Tami Albin knew she was somehow different from other girls. She was drawn to the small shelf of gay and lesbian books at her Kansas library. Librarians wanted to be helpful and would ask her if she needed help, but Albin, now 38 and a librarian in her own right at Kansas University's Anschutz Library, insisted on finding books on her own.

The Teacher-Librarian As Literacy Leader: Once upon a time, the teacher-librarian was regarded as the literature expert in the school. Staff and students alike sought suggestions for books to read alone or aloud, and the teacher- librarian matched titles to interests, abilities, developmental levels, curriculum needs, and a host of other factors that put the right book into the right hands. The literacy-through-literature role was the prime responsibility of the teacher-librarian.

A New Director for the Salt Lake City Public Library

Following up on a previous article here on LISNews, we now know the identity of the new Director of the beautiful Salt Lake City Library. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that it's Elizabeth Elder, up til now, planning director at the Denver Public Library, who has been selected to replace retired Director Nancy Tessman.
