A further excerpt from the ZDNet-featured article (written by Grant McCool, Reuters):

King wrote in a message on his Web site http://www.stephenking.com, that starting on Monday readers will be able to download the opening installment of \”The Plant,\” the first time a significant release has bypassed a publisher.

\”Buck an episode. When Installment One appears, send me the payment — we\’ll give you all the how-tos then,\” King wrote in the message posted on July 11.

No word on whether King plans to charge for rides in Christine or weekends with Cujo.
