Hello Wisconsin!

I'm pleased to announce that on June 1 I will be joining the La Crosse Public Library as their Information Services Manager. Wonderful library, dynamic, awesome director and a lovely town! I never thought I'd leave my hometown before my girls were out of high school, but opportunity not only knocked, but kicked in the door. I'm sad to be leaving the only place I've ever known, but excited about the adventure and thrilled with the challenge. Any La Crossians out there?

Yippee!

Congrats! Not LaCrosse, but I know a great library vendor, Lynn (www.bifolkal.org) in Madison. How far is that?

Woo Hoo!

Congrats and welcome to Wisconsin! You are moving to one of the most scenic parts of our fair state. Mark Twain even raved about it in Life on the Mississippi. Summer and fall are fantastic. The downside is spring is non-existant, as evidenced by our coming to the end of February II aka March; and as for winter, well, it ain't called the great frozen north for nothin'! But enough about the weather, La Crosse is also a college town, has a brewery, and occasionally hosts the Wisconsin Library Association convention. I'm really excited for you!

Re:Woo Hoo!

Oh, hey Pete! I'd forgotten (if I ever knew) that you were from WI. Where abouts? Everyone is warning me about winter, but I really hate hot summers, so it seems like a decent trade off to me. I've always fantasized about Alaska, so Wisconsin is close enough for now. Don't forget...La Crosse has the largest six pack in the world.

Re:Yippee!

Madison will be 3+ hours away, which is about how far away it is for me from Bloomington. The bummer is that Chicago will be 5-6 hours away. Minneapolis will have to become my new Big City--it's about 2 1/2 hours away. Not that I do much Big City visiting.

Official

It is only official when you get one of those cheese head things.

I love cheese.

I love all dairy products.

Blessed are the Cheesemakers.

And there's more for the adventurous!

Rochelle, you'll be in easy driving distance not only to Madison, but also to the "Twin Cities" in Minnesota. It is the Paris of the Prairies. We have libraries, art museums, and that astonishing monument to consumerism: The Mall of America! It must be seen to be believed. I've spent countless hours driving in circles around it to retrieve our children and once I even entered it...and lived to tell the tale.

Re:Official

You know...we already have one of those cheese head things. I think the girls went to the Dells with their dad last year and brought back a cheesehead hat. Olivia, my oldest, is an aficianado of fried cheese and can't believe her good fortune at moving to a state where fried cheese curds are on every menu. I'm talking REAL fried cheese, people! Not some sorry-*ss free Happy Hour cheese balls. If you come through La Crosse, the fried cheese curds and City beer is on me! --rochelle

Re:And there's more for the adventurous!

I figured that Minnesota would become my new Chicago. I can probably live without ever seeing Mall of America though. Malls make my brain hurt.
