Laura Bush on Monday presented the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with the 2004 National Award for Museum and Library Science service in Washington, D.C.
The awards are conferred annually by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to institutions that have demonstrated a long-term commitment to public service through innovative programs and community partnerships; in this case to the university's Regional Academic Health Center Medical Library in Edinburgh, Texas, for its efforts to provide health information to physicians living in the Rio Grande Valley. The library's staff also trains women called promotoras (community health outreach workers) on how to give important health information to local residents. Story from the San Antonio Business Journal.
