The Chicago Sun Times has this article about a small library attached to a main one, which gives customers quick access to new books.

\”Called CPL Express, it\’s a ground-floor room with its own door onto State Street that offers the growing Loop and South Loop residential population and people who work and shop nearby quick access to the latest fiction and nonfiction.\”

\”It contains 10,000 books, all published within the last 12 to 18 months, ranging from best sellers to popular romance and whodunits published only in paperback.\”

\”This is great. It has all the latest new fiction that I used to have to go up to the seventh floor to find,\” said Nita Perez of Plainfield. She works nearby at the Board of Trade and picks up books to read while she commutes.\”

\”CPL Express opened June 1 in the space that used to house a gift shop and coffee shop. Christine Hert of Des Plaines spotted it last Thursday on her lunch hour and rushed in, quickly gathering an armload of new paperbacks.\”

\”I\’m always anxious to see what\’s just out\” by her favorite authors of science fiction, historical novels and biographies, Hert said.\”

\”It\’s a browsing library,\” said Susanne Clower, who heads CPL Express. Most customers won\’t bother with the computer catalog but will walk along the open shelves to see what\’s there.\”
