Yesterday, IT got a print management system up and running on some of our public internet terminals. Patrons will have to buy a debit card or can use cash to print out anything, and hopefully the days of someone printing out three identical 48-page game cheats will be over, since patrons will have to pre-pay. For the next couple of weeks, there will be no charge for printing (aside from our long-standing honors system) as we get the regulars (and ourselves) trained on the software. I imagine the only squawkers will be our serial abusers. This week also started our distribution of e-cards for those who are ineligible for library cards. An e-card will allow internet access, but not check-out privileges, and make access more seamless. So far, it seems to be working pretty well.
