New Librarian At Cambridge University

Well it’s high time. Cambridge University has appointed Anne Jarvis to be its first female librarian in its 650-year history.

Telegraph UK reports that Jarvis (the Telegraph calls her Mrs. Jarvis) will take responsibility for more than eight million books and volumes.

The 46-year-old – a deputy librarian since 2000 – will replace Peter Fox who is to step down after 15 years in charge at the historic library.

Cambridge’s library has more than 100 miles of shelving, which extends by a further two miles each year to cope with extra books. Its revered status means it has been entitled to a free copy of every book, journal, map and music score published in the UK since it was granted depository status in 1710.
