The biographies focus on the National Library\’s areas of emphasis: Canadian history and society, literature, music, and library and information science. There are many types of Electronic Resources available on the National Library\’s Web site, including digitization projects, archival fonds, literary award winners and projects such as Women\’s History Month in Canada.

The biographies are accessible through four indexes:

The Name Index provides an alphabetical list of names (including pseudonyms and common variants of the name), with corresponding links to biographical information.

The Field of Endeavour Index allows you to search by an individual\’s particular area of expertise; be it an occupation, volunteer work, or an activity of personal interest.

For a more general approach, you can browse the biographies using the Subject Index.

Finally, the biographies are also retrievable through the Resource Index which lists the digital resource project within which the biography originates. Remember to use the BACK button on your browser to return to these indexes from individual biographies.

As new projects are added to the National Library\’s Web site, Memorable Canadians will be updated to ensure access to these important sources of information.
