Sold-out Kindle lacks rave reviews

The Seattle Post Intelligencer says according to one measure of popularity -- Amazon's own star rating system -- the Kindle has had only lukewarm success. So far, more than 1,300 visitors have ranked the device and have awarded it with an average of 3 1/2 out of five stars.

Sure, it's sold out--but since Amazon doesn't say how many went up on sale, that means nothing. I guess we can assume at least 1,300 (presumably Amazon reviewers don't review it if they don't have it).

Useful rule of thumb: Successful consumer electronics products are always touted with real sales numbers. Even semi-successful products (e.g., PS3 in its early months) are touted with real sales numbers. Sony's never released sales figures for the Sony Reader. Amazon won't release sales figures for the Kindle. Draw your own conclusions.

Most of the people that have rated the Kindle have never even seen one in person. Just because people have opinions do not mean that they have any value. (Just think of how you regard my opinions)
