Ann Arbor (MI) area Grapples with the Filter Question

An Anonymous Patron sends “a story from Ann Arbor News about how local schools and libraries are addressing the filtering issue. While the schools have been filtering for awhile, many area public libraries have not installed filters, saying that their use existing use policy protects minors while assuring unfettered access for research purposes. Students at schools report having a difficult time accessing legitimate sites due to overblocking. According to Ypslanti schools’ Executive Director of Educational Services, Noni Miller, ‘the district will override the ban on a certain page if a teacher e-mails the technology department and explains that a student needs to use it for specific research.’
