A New Library!! (with nothing in it)

No, this is not a repeat from a few weeks ago. Yet another library has opened it\’s doors without really being complete. My mother always told me that first impressions were very important. Head and Shoulders has also made it clear that you only get one shot to make a good first impression. However, despite the fact that the library is slightly bare, the residents love the new place. The full story is a available from the Binghamton Press.

\”Although Wednesday marks the one-month anniversary of Broome County Library opening its doors at its new $7.8-million location on Court Street, the building is still not fully operational.\”

\”Some of the furnishings, computers and shelving, purchased with more than $4 million in donations, still haven\’t arrived.\”

\”A computer lab remains empty. The Kresge Storytelling Room isn\’t ready for little ones. The Traveling Exhibitions area is not ready for the public and the snack room lacks vending machines.\”

\”I don\’t want to blame anyone. It\’s part of doing business,\” said Terrence M. Kane, Broome County deputy county executive for administration. \”The county library board ordered a lot of equipment, and a lot of it is still on its way. We\’ll do whatever we can to help, but the equipment just hasn\’t arrived.\”

\”Library Director Donna Riegel said it\’s a delivery and installation problem.\”

\”Computers were supposed to arrive this week, but plans changed because of back-ordering, she said.\”

\”They didn\’t tell me a specific date, so I honestly can\’t tell you when they will come in,\” she said. \”We have Internet access. We just currently have no computers.\”

\”Riegel said even if the computers arrive, there wouldn\’t be anything to put them on because the individual computer desks are not yet installed.\”

\”There is nothing that can be done about the delay beyond \”dealing with it and still moving forward,\” Kane said. \”I don\’t know the exact schedule of when equipment will arrive. It\’s managed directly by Donna (Riegel) and the executive board.\”

\”The missing amenities didn\’t bother patrons visiting the library Tuesday afternoon.\”
