Tech for Techies

Tech for Techies #3

In this week's show we look at Needs Assessment and the questions you need to ask yourself. In Audio Snake Oil we continue our look at Oxygen Free Copper wires. Somehow a promo piece from Linux Outlaws pops up in the middle of things. Next week we will look at the structure of a podcast and planning a podcast.

The homework between now and next week is to think about the questions discussed in the episode and how you would answer them in launching an online media project.

Resources list promised in the episode:

Tech for Techies #2

Welcome to the first week of the Tech for Techies class! To learn about where we are going we have to look at where we have been. This week we look at the history of broadcasting that preceded podcasting. We also take a moment to look at a bit of "audio snake oil" when it comes to the physics of cabling. There is no homework for next week with the class. That won't always be the case, though. Related links: Worldcat.org reference to a history text on very early radio history in North America

Tech for Techies #1

Although slightly late, this initial installment to Tech for Techies as its own show takes educational looks at some technology issues currently out there that weren't likely directly covered in library school.

Network Mast During Hiatus

Regular production of LISTen: An LISNews.org Podcast is on hiatus until August 23rd. That is a target date for a return and can change depending upon circumstances. Tech for Techies remains on hiatus while Hyperlinked History has transitioned to a video program. The back catalogs of each program remain for your listening pleasure. During the hiatus while the air staff at Erie Looking Productions is undertaking efforts so that LISTen may return, you can still follow what the team is doing. Things that you can follow include: Pages bookmarked on Delicious Selections of materials heard by the air staff as recorded by Last.fm The status of the LISFeeds.com site Special episodes can potentially arise during the hiatus. If so, heads-up notice will be posted to http://identi.ca/lisnews alone. An RSS feed exists for that stream on Identica as well.

A LISTen Special: Is The Cloud Dissipating?

In this special edition of LISTen: The LISNews.org Podcast one finds a chat with Blake Carver talking about creating a Drupal site as well as discussion of implications arising from recent changes on the Web 2.0 frontier. An audio news release from the United States Postal Service is presented so as to show another example of that communications form for libraries seeking to innovate in PR. LISTen is available to libraries who want to take a practice shot at such before approaching their local media outlets.
