Sandy Berman has influenced at least two generations of librarians, all over the world. He has worked in libraries in Germany, Africa and around the United States. He did his greatest work at Hennepin County Library, creating his own alternative catalog to The Library of Congress. He also founded the ALA SRRT Taskforce on the Homeless, and still keeps up his daily interest in all things about libraries. Next Monday he will be celebrating his 75th birthday after surviving a near-fatal car accident near Duluth, Minnesota. Let's all send Sandy a birthday card - I mailed my musical card today - at Sanford Berman, 4400 Morningside Road,
Edina MN 55416-5043. Happy birthday Sandy - the library world would be a really different place without you.
