Russell Shank was an early proponent of automating library services and a fervent supporter of 1st amendment rights in libraries. He was a past president of the American Library Assn.

Russ--who I had the privilege to know--was a good man and a good librarian. "Great" might work in both cases as well. It is sad but fitting that he should die thanks to an accident at ALA Annual.
