The Ottawa Public Library: If it’s out there, it’s in here

The Ottawa Public Library: If it’s out there, it’s in here On May 15, the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) launched a Library Awareness Campaign to keep Ottawans reading and to promote awareness of all the resources the library offers to help them do this. Access to these resources ensures informed, literate, educated and engaged citizens, which in turn make richer and safer communities. Literacy affects all life outcomes. It is related to health and safety, poverty, justice, employment and wealth, economic growth, social status, family life and early childhood development, community involvement, personal satisfaction, and more. This bilingual campaign is part of the OPL Board’s strategic focus to provide responsive services including good reads and the right information to support lifelong learning, literacy and reading for all. And it also helps us to tell our story by building increased awareness of what the library has to offer and reporting on our progress to the public and taxpayers. The campaign comprises a series of fresh, compelling ads featuring the tagline “The Ottawa Public Library: If it’s out there, it’s in here.” The ads reach out to everyone in Ottawa. We want them to know more about their Ottawa Public Library’s vast assortment of resources. More than ever, these individuals also want easy access to information, knowledge and entertainment. OPL is cooperating on the campaign with its service partners, the Ottawa Public Library Foundation (OPLF), the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA) and OC Transpo, as well as with its regular media partner, The Ottawa Citizen, and its computer systems vendor, SirsiDynix. The campaign will run for eight weeks and features print ads in The Ottawa Citizen, as well as The Ottawa Sun, Le Droit, L’Express and EMC community newspapers. It also includes online banners for The Ottawa Citizen and Le Droit web pages, and interior transit cards in 850 OC Transpo buses. There will also be posters in OPL and City facilities, and a feature box on the OPL website. To view the ads, visit
