Kudos to Rochelle and Nat for buying into ALA'a selective myopia with this issue.

If ALA were truly a "national only" organization I could accept their silence. However, we know that ALA's International Relations Committee has never been shy to speak out on foreign policy matters. Palestinian territories, Israel, Russia, Iraq just to name a few.

Regrettably Cuba isn't on the ALA radar.

Kudos to Rochelle and Nat for NOT buying into ALA'a selective myopia with this issue.

All I did was post, tomeboy. My (or anyone else's) posting of a submitted story does not necessarily confer agreement. I find it a very difficult discussion, and one I'm not entirely sure ALA has any business addressing, one way or the other, despite my personal (and conflicted) feelings on the issue. You might, however, want to forward your congratulations to Steve and Nat, since it was Steve who submitted the story.

Thanks for the heads up.

However my kudos are for not ignoring this issue. I make no assumptions on your, or others, thoughts. The truth is that your simple act of posting sends an implicit message (to me anyway) that this issue deserves recognition and discussion rather than avoidance. This is certainly more than what ALA has done.
