The Andover News Network has a scary story on a new law under consideration in VA that would give manufacturers of software access to your hard drive. The law would allow software makers to place a self-destruct feature in the software, AND even go in your computer to shut it off if they have reason to believe you violated your user agreement.

Check out 4cite.org for more info.Software manufacturers say this is paranoid hyperbole, and that the \"self-help\" provisions of the law that allow manufacturers to cut off their customers are no different that a bank\'s right to foreclose on your house, or the electric company\'s right to cut off your service for non-payment.
But to be on the safe side, the Virginia Legislature has agreed to delay implementation of the new law for a year while a state-sponsored commission considers whether it should be amended.
