The most frightening part of the adventure was crossing the border. Armed border officials reviewed our passports again and again as we watched from the window of the bus. At one point we were ordered off the bus. We stood on the sidewalk in the dark – tired and hungry -- outside our bus near the Saudi border unclear whether we would be allowed into the country. Four hours passed before we found ourselves in our rooms in Steineke Hall on the Aramco compound in Dhahran.
