Pinocchio and Friends converted to Islam

From the 8/31/06 Telegraph (UK), an article about characters like Tom Sawyer, Pinocchio and others have converted to Islam in new versions of 100 classic stories on the Turkish school curriculum. Here is the link:

In one way*, is this any different from that company in Utah that "cleans" Hollywood movies like Titanic in order to take the sex out?

*I understand there is a copyright issue facing the Utah company and I believe copyright is inapplicable in the Turkish situation. However, I have heard some voice horror over the fact that the Utah company was destroying the artistic integrity of the films. Is this any different?

No difference, but we should read carefully.

There's no difference at all, pchuck. The usual forces of ignorance at work. However...a careful reading of the UK-Telegraph article does mention that the Turkish government does not endorse the books and is taking action. Something about the Turkish Republic still being secular, which does cause some confusion for some Christians in the U.S.

2006, July 10: "Sanitizing" films

By CleanFlicks, Play It Clean Video, and CleanFilms, et al. Several companies edit movies to delete objectionable language, sex, and violence, have been ordered to cease and desist and to turn over their inventory to Hollywood studios by 11 Jul. U.S. District Judge Richard P. Matsch ruled on 06 Jul that the practice is an "illegitimate business" that hurts the intellectual property rights holders. The defendants have been ordered to stop "producing, manufacturing, creating" and renting edited movies. Michael Apted, president of the Director's Guild of America commented: "Audiences can now be assured that the films they buy or rent are the vision of the filmmakers who made them and not the arbitrary choices of a third-party editor."
