50 Year Anniverary of the Library Services Act.

This year the Library Services Act turns 50. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed on June 19, 1956.

It's nice to know who I can thank for the Library Services Act. I have this Eisenhower quote on my office wall:

The libraries of America are and must ever remain the home of the free, inguiring minds. To them, our citizens - of all ages and races, of all creeds and political persuasions - must ever be able to turn with clear confidences that there they can freely seek the whole truth, unwarped by fashion and uncompromised by expediency.

This creed is needed as badly today as it was then.
