New Firefox Toolbar for Libraries

Anonymous Patron writes "Many toolbars for browsers have been created for searching library catalogs (among other things). Most, however, have not allowed others to contribute to the development of the toolbar. A new library toolbar for Mozilla Firefox has been created that includes many of the features of past library toolbars. The toolbar is limited to the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University, but the code could be used by other librarians to build their own library toolbars and/or extend the current toolbar to make it better."

An infrastructure to create toolbars for Firefox for different libraries exists at LibX is currently used by several libraries already; see for more information and for examples of editions created.Creating a new edition for your library involves providing information such as your catalog type (millenium, voyager, aleph, horizon) and URL, as well as the type and location of your OpenURL resolver and your library's logo. In the future, we intend to make the creation of new editions fully automatic through a web interface. We are looking for libraries that wish to offer this service to their patrons.
