ALA preparing to file a Patriot Act FOIA request

The Reader's Shop writes "The American Library Association's Executive Board is filing the FOIA request to determine if the FBI has been collecting information on the Association and its leaders as a result of their opposition to certain provisions of the USA Patriot Act."

I would imagine...
that they are, and it wouldn't require the Patriot Act to do it. Its not unusual for the FBI to keep files on groups and individuals and considering ALA's over-the-top reactions and a number of its prominent members belonging to extreme political groups I'd say ALA has had a file for a while.
