In an effort to encourage more parents of newborn babies to read to their children at an early age, the Redwood City, California, Public Library is giving all babies born at Sequoia Hospital their first library card.

It's great that this library is being proactive and getting in there early. If libraries are to have any chance against television, PSP, video games, and other "more interesting" activities, then libraries have to be more proactive like this.
