Hindi books score low with students

Anonymous Patron writes "About 50,000 publications in Hindi are brought out each year, according to Anil Verma, a publisher and distributor. But schoolchildren hardly seem to be laying their hands on them. Instead, English books command their overwhelming attention despite a much lower number of the books hitting the Indian market at any given time.

bear in mind many Indians don't speak Hindi. The country has about 14 official languages, and English often gets used as a de facto standard (being an 'external' language, it's not associated with any particular group in India).
