Shudder!
This makes me shudder. You can get away with anything in librarianship as long as you don't mess with the genealogists!
Standing between the blue rinse set and their membership in the DAR or proof that they are descended from Ghanan chiefs, and you are just asking for trouble.
They will descend upon their local politicians, and explain their family history, in detail, to each of them. The politicians will then open up their wallets to the genealogists for their library collections, simply to get them away from their offices. They finally see the need for libraries- they keep the amateur genealogists in a nice warm enclosure, and off the streets and off politician's toes!
