Help the LII with a few bucks

Topic:
The Legal Information Institute (LII) is a research and electronic publishing activity of the Cornell Law School. Popular collections include: the U.S. Code, Supreme Court opinions, and Law about... This free service is an authoratative, easy to use, one stop shop for many things legal. I have sent them a few bucks in the past because I use their tools so frequently, and now you can send some of your hard earned cash their way. I post below their latest email plea for donations (they don't send email often and I did opt in.) Donate online at http://www.law.cornell.edu/donors/ <!--break--> <em> Times are tough. The stability of our financial system is uncertain, money is tight for many, and there is a lot of uncertainty about the future. It's hard to ask you to give. But the fact is that those who have been hardest hit by the declining economy need our services more than ever right now, and so do the people who help them, people who work for legal aid clinics, charitable organizations, and other nonprofits that help those who are struggling. Your generous support will help us, and them. They are turning to the LII in record numbers to get the legal information they need, for free. In September, visits to the LII's bankruptcy-related resources increased by 87%. On September 15th, the day of the first 500-point slide in the Dow Industrial average, use of those materials was double the normal level. Our overall numbers remain high and are increasing: 6 million hits a week from over 200 countries, 1,000,000 inbound links, and 80,000 multi-page visits per day. The LII stands out because we make law both freely available and accessible. Thanks to your generosity, the LII has been able to create new things that make law easier to find and understand something that's important to a diverse, global audience of lawyers and non-lawyers alike. Many of our more important WEX articles are now available in Spanish; more will soon follow. We have been doing important work in making Federal regulations more accessible, opening up the process by which they are created and delivered to the public. At the same time, we are advising granting agencies, as well as other members of the open-access-to-law movement, on the development of rigorous frameworks by which we can measure the impact and progress of our activities. Our aim, as always, is efficiency, good stewardship, and sustainability. I know that you rely on the LII, and we deeply appreciate your past support not just your donations, but also the vote of confidence they represent. As you make the difficult choices about whether and how you will give this year, I hope you will continue to help us provide legal information to everyone who asks for it, especially in difficult times. We cannot do it without you. Best wishes for a good holiday season, and, as always, please drop me a line to let me know how you're doing and what we can do better. All the best, Tb. for posting this. I use Cornell's site extensively for litigation research. I'll definitely be donating something.
