A brand new 1.7 million dollar library in Twiggs County is set to close Tuesday night due to lack of funds. Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal joined local officials in cutting the ribbon just two weeks ago. The library was built with mostly state money. Its operating budget is funded locally.

UPDATE - Library is back open, for now (thank you Mock Turtle).

Very unfortunate. Sadly, this will lead some people to think that spending money on new buildings for libraries is a waste of time. Where I live, there is a library trying to get a new building and they have been thwarted so far by some local residents who don't think they need a new library (they do, the facility is in terrible shape.)

Obviously this wasn't planned well at all by the library board, the library director/management, and the local government.

Sad all around.

Horrifying

Having things crash due to running out of cash must not become a trend. We already had one library in Illinois have that happen. This does not lead to optimism.
