“We’ll see how it pans out Wednesday,” he added. “If it doesn’t work out, I’ll get back in the picture. (SERB) interfered with the mediation process, which is not a good thing to do.”

The library and District 925 of the Service Employees International Union have a mutually agreed dispute resolution procedure which calls for Connelly to mediate. But SERB, using its authority under state law, decided last week to take jurisdiction in the case.

The board is neutral, said Executive Director Jeffery J. Taylor.

“The whole goal is to help the parties reach a settlement,” he said.

The meeting, which is closed to the public, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Comfort Inn on Broadmoor Circle NW in Plain Township. Follow-up meetings are a possibility, said Taylor, who would not elaborate on what SERB plans to say or do to encourage agreement.
