Everything you wanted to know about LISNews.

You may have noticed a lack of email and headlines from LISNews lately. That was mostly due to the fact that I (Blake Carver) was sick, and I started a new job that is keeping me pretty busy.

How can you post your own stories? Who am I? What is this all about? Where do the ads come from? Why don\’t the headlines by email work? Read on for all the boring details.

LISNews was started in November of last year, by Steve Galbraith and Myself. I love slashdot and thought it would be great if librarians had a slashdot of their own, so I just did it. At the time I was a librarian here in Buffalo, NY (no, it\’s not a subburb of NYC), now I work for Chek.com doing web sites and stuff. I do all the work on LISNews in my spare time, assisted mostly by Nabeal the mad programmer. So things don\’t always work, and I don\’t always have the time to fix them. I also don\’t bother to check my spelling all the time, I am always amazed at how nasty librarian\’s are. I\’ve gotten flamed like you would not believe kuz of my poor spelling and grammar. You\’d think they were paying for this!

Over the past few months LISNews has grown to have about 800 visitors a day, there are about 600 people on the mailing list. The news is focused primarily on what I find interesting, since I post most of the stories. Which is why I am always begging for help. I don\’t want to post most of the stories, then all you end up with is the news according to Blake, which is not what this is all about. Anyone can post a story, if you are interested please let me know. Wouldn’t it be cool to have your name on all over such a cool website? I also try to keep politics and other social issues out of the stories I post. I leave that kind of thing to Rory and Jessyman. The one and only rule I have is avoid getting myself in trouble. Call me a chicken if you must.

If you are a subscriber of our email list hopefully you\’re being patient with our sporadic mailings that don\’t always work. We wrote the code for that ourselves and it still has a few bugs to be worked out.
The options should be working now. For some reason it sends out empty mailings from time to time as well. I am working on that.

The ads come from sites that I like, it\’s as simple as that. If you would like an ad, let me know, especially for non-profit sites. Some day I\’ll start selling ads, but till then, they are FREE. I\’ll also gladly trade an ad or two if you are willing to help out in anyway.
