A campaign by the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and a number of other literary names to stop the destruction of hundreds of thousands of books at the UK's largest municipal library appeared to have succeeded.

Stock control and an organised holdings procedure seems like a massacre to people that don't know what is going on.

If the Friends want to keep these books maybe they should be delivered to their homes for safekeeping?
